From self-sufficiency to a family business !

Our history

Organic ME began as a wee family project on Kelso High Street — a kitchen table piled with jars, tatties and hand‑stitched linens. Neighbours popped in for a blether and a cuppa, and that homely start grew into a family business rooted in the Borders. We still keep that warm welcome: honest prices, friendly faces and recipes that change with the seasons.

We work shoulder‑to‑shoulder with local crofters and organic farmers whose seasonal harvests — from heather honey to root veg — fill our shelves. Everything sold in our café and shop is either prepared here in Kelso or finished by hand close to home, so customers can taste the place in every bite and stitch. We favour sustainable packaging and clear origin labelling because provenance matters to us and our neighbours.

Our aim is simple: champion quality, support our community and care for the land. We run monthly gardening courses, produce small‑batch organic honey, and offer responsibly made clothing and homeware. The website will help us share these stories, welcome visitors to the Borders, and show how local hands and local seasons shape everything at Organic ME.

Cafe, honey, organic food and clothes

At our Kelso café we serve honest, properly brewed coffee — roasted in small batches and pulled with care. Our baristas treat every cup as a chance to brighten someone’s day: a warm welcome, a perfectly timed shot, and seasonal bakes made with local ingredients. We favour reusable crockery for in‑house dining, compostable options for takeaway, and menu specials that celebrate Border produce.

Our honey story is rooted in pollination and place. What began with a handful of hives to help local crops has grown into small‑batch, organic beekeeping across nearby farms and wildflower margins. We use organic‑approved methods, extract gently to preserve flavour, and label each jar with the harvest and a short tasting note so folk can savour the season.

When it comes to food, we put neighbours first: local dairies, bakers and growers supply the ingredients for our shelves and kitchen. Dishes are simple, seasonal and honest — a taste of the Borders — and product labels tell the story of who grew or made them. Regular restocks keep offerings fresh and support small producers in our community.

Our homeware and clothing reflect the same Border craft: natural fibres, local makers and small runs so every piece feels proper. Many items are finished by hand in Kelso using traditional techniques, natural dyes and minimal packaging. We stand by durable design, clear care advice, and a commitment that each purchase supports families and makers in the Borders.
